THE VILLAGE GALA


Middlestown/Overton - Saturday 19th May 2012


Change of date
We have opted for an earlier date this year of Saturday 19th May. This should allow the school to take a more active role on the day and fingers crossed, the weather may be a little kinder this time around. The procession starts at 11 am from the school and the gala opens at 12 noon.

Olympic theme
2012 sees the Olympic Games come to London and we thought we’d bring a flavour of that up north to Middlestown/Overton ! Hopefully this will generate lots of ideas for procession floats, fancy dress, games and competitions.

Procession floats
There has been a huge amount of interest in having floats back in the procession so this year we would like to invite you to participate and create your own floats. The route will be the same as last year so vehicles must be suitable to drive through the estate and must have secure sides at the rear if people are being carried on it. All floats must be registered, for more info contact Kath.

Calling all cake bakers !
The cake stall was a huge hit last year with hungry visitors so we are looking for reinforcements this time. If you can help with cakes, biscuits, pastries etc contact Audrey Murray at St Luke’s Church or bring them on the day before 11 am to the cricket field.

Prize donations
Last year we had an amazing response from businesses and residents donating toys and bubble bath for the tombola and TVs and pamper treats for the raffle. Donation boxes are located in the village pubs or contact Kath for collection. Your support is very much appreciated yet again.

Local photographs
Many people enjoyed looking back on previous events and sharing memories of yesteryear. Do you have any photos of local events, scenery, people that you would like to share ?

All hands to the deck !
May 19th is fast approaching, if you can help out on the day, manning stalls, putting up tents, car park marshalling or generally being useful please let me know ASAP.

Over £1000 was raised last year for groups within the village. We had a really fantastic day so come and support us and join in the fun. This year looks set to be bigger and better with lots more attractions and great events.
