Friend Mallinson tribute poem
A popular young man (born 1889 in Flockton) who died aged 29 in a mining accident April 26th 1919 and buried in Flockton April 29th 1919.
See the Friend Mallinson photo gallery.
This poem was written by his brother-in-law. It reads:
In loving memory of Friend Mallinson
The beloved husband of
Ada Mallinson, Middlestown
Died April 26th 1919
And was interred at
Zion Chapel, Flockton April 29th
Death little warning to me gave
But quickly called me to my grave
Then haste to Christ make no delay
For no-one knows their dying day
In loving memory of our dear brother-in-law Friend Mallinson
Oft we meet and oft we miss him,
It seems strange that he's not here,
Then look upon his photo,
Thats enough to bring a tear.
He is gone, yes, and we know it,
For we miss him every day,
He would not not have left us sudden,
Could he but have had his way.
When he went to work that morning,
For to earn his daily bread,
Little did we think by noontide,
From his body life had fled.
Then the news so swift and sudden,
Reached his home, ah-what a shock,
For his loving wife and children,
Had lost the best friend they had got.
Friend he was by name and nature,
Cut off in the prime of life,
Now they are left to face the future,
May God protect his children and wife.
